Bom, meu pai saiu de casa quando eu tinha 3 anos,
E ele não deixou muita coisa para mamãe e nem pra mim,
Só este velho violão e uma garrafa vazia de bebida.
Agora eu não o culpo porque ele fugiu e se escondeu,
Mas a coisa mais malvada que ele já fez,
Foi que antes de partir ele veio, e me deu o nome de Sue.
Bem, ele deve ter achado que era uma piada e tanto,
E isso rendeu muitas risadas de um monte de gente,
Parecia que eu teria que lutar a minha vida Inteira.
Alguma namorada poderia rir e eu ficava vermelho,
E algum cara riria e eu quebraria a cabeça dele,
Eu lhe digo, a vida não é fácil para um garoto chamado Sue.
Eu cresci rápido e cresci malvado,
Meus punhos duros, e meus movimentos mordazes,
Eu vaguei de cidade em cidade para esconder minha vergonha.
Mas eu me fiz jurar pra lua e pras estrelas,
Que procuraria nos bordéis e bares,
E mataria o cara que me deu aquele nome horrível.
Bem, era Gatlandburg em meados de junho,
Mal cheguei à cidade, minha garganta estava seca,
Pensei: eu vou parar e tomar uma bebida.
Num velho saloon numa rua de lama,
Ali estava numa mesa sentado apostando,
O cão imundo e sarnento que me chamou de Sue.
Bem, sabia que aquela cobra era meu doce papai,
Por uma uma foto velha que minha mãe tinha,
E eu conhecia aquela cicatriz no rosto e seus olhos maus.
Ele era grande e curvado, e grisalho e velho,
E eu olhei pra ele e meu sangue gelou, e eu disse,
"Meu nome é Sue! Como vai? Agora você Morrerá!"
Sim, isto foi o que eu disse a ele.
Bem, eu o acertei forte no meio dos olhos,
E ele caiu, mas para minha surpresa,
Veio com uma faca e cortou fora um pedaço da minha orelha.
Eu quebrei uma cadeira direto em seus dentes,
E nós quebramos a parede e saímos pra rua,
Chutando e socando na lama no sangue e na cerveja.
Eu lhe digo que já lutei com homens mais fortes,
Mas realmente não consigo lembrar quando,
Ele chutava como uma mula e mordia como um crocodilo.
Bem, eu o ouvi rindo, e o ouvi tossindo,
Ele pegou sua arma, mas eu peguei a minha primeiro,
Ele ficou lá olhando para mim, e eu o vi sorrir.
Então ele disse, "Filho, este mundo é cruel,
E se um homem quer sobreviver tem que ser durão,
E eu sabia que não poderia estar lá para te ajudar.
Então eu lhe dei esse nome e disse adeus,
Eu sabia que você teria que ficar durão ou morrer
E foi esse nome que lhe ajudou a te fazer forte.
Agora, você acaba de lutar uma bela de uma briga,
E eu sei que você me odeia e você tem o direito
De me matar agora e eu não vou te culpar se você o fizer.
Mas você tem que me agradecer antes de eu morrer,
Pelas pedras no seu estômago e pela cuspida no seu olho,
Porque eu sou o filho da puta que te deu o nome de Sue".
Bem, o que eu poderia fazer, o que eu poderia fazer?
Bem, eu fiquei sem ar e joguei minha arma fora,
O chamei de pai e ele me chamou de filho,
E eu vim embora com um ponto de vista diferente.
Eu penso nele agora e sempre,
Toda vez que eu tento e toda a vez que eu ganho,
E se eu tiver um filho,
Eu acho que o chamarei de,
Bill ou George, qualquer coisa menos sue!
Eu ainda odeio aquele nome!

But I made me a vow to the moon and stars,
I'd search the honky-tonks and bars,
And kill that man that gave me that awful name.
Well, it was Gatlandburg in mid-July,
I'd just hit town and my throat was dry,
thought I'd stop and have myself a brew.
In and old saloon on a street of mud,
There at a table dealin' stud,
Sat the dirty, mangy dog that named me Sue.
Well I knew that snake was my own sweet dad,
from a worn out picture that my mother had,
& I knew that scar on his cheek & his evil eye.
He was big and bent and grey and old,
And I looked at him and my blood ran cold, and I said,
"My name is Sue! how do you do! Now you gonna die!"
Yeah that's what I told him.
Well, I hit him hard right between the eyes,
And he went down but to my surprise,
Come up with a knife a cut off a piece o' my ear.
I busted a chair right across his teeth,
And we crashed through the wall and into the street,
Kickin' and a gougin' in the the mud and the blood and thebeer.
I tell you I've fought tougher men,
but I really can't remember when,
he kicked like a mule & bit like a crocodile.
Well I heard him laugh and then I heard him cuss,
He went for his gun but I pulled mine first,
He stood there lookin' at me and I saw him smile.
And he said, "Son, this world is rough,
And if a man's gonna make it he's gotta be tough,
And I know I wouldn't be there to help you along.
So I gave that name and I said goodbye,
I knew you'd have to get tough or die,
And it's that name what helped to make you strong.
Now you just fought one hell of a fight,
And I know you hate me and ya got the right,
To kill me now and I wouldn't blame you if you do.
But you oughtta thank me before I die,
For the gravel in your gut and the spit in your eye,
'Cause I'm the ------- that named you Sue."
Well, what could I do, what COULD I do?
Well I got a choked up and threw down my gun,
Called him a pa and he called me a son,
And I come away with a different point of view.
I think about him now and then,
Every time I try and every time I win,
And if I ever have a son,
I think I'm gonna name him,
Bill or George anything but Sue!
I still hate that name!
