Os portões e portas estavam trancados e todas as janelas fechadas
Eu passei a noite sem sono e me levantava a cada barulho
Em parte num sofrimento sem esperança e em parte com medo do dia
Em que os soldados entrariam aqui e nos levariam presos
E pouco antes do amanhecer eu ouvi algo na muralha
O portão começou a ranger e uma voz começou a chamar
Eu corri para a janela e olhei para a rua
Esperando espadas e tochas e o som dos pés dos soldados
Mas não havia ninguém além de Maria então eu desci para deixá-la entrar
João estava lá quando ela me contou onde ela estivera
Ela disse que o removeram de noite e ninguém de nós sabia para onde
A pedra foi retirada e agora seu corpo não está lá
Então nós dois corremos pelo jardim e João entrou primeiro
Encontramos a pedra e o túmulo vazio do jeito que Maria disse
Mas o manto que o envolvia era apenas um pano vazio
E como ou para onde eles o levaram era mais do que nós poderiamos falar.
Bem, algo estranho aconteceu lá, mas o que era eu não sabia
João acreditava em um milagre mas eu apenas fui embora
Circunstâncas e especulações não podiam me iludir
Porque eu vi o crucificarem e então eu o vi morrer
De volta à casa de novo a culpa e a angústia vieram
Tudo o que eu havia prometido a Ele se acumularam à minha vergonha
Quando em fim eu tive que escolher, eu neguei que sabia o seu nome
E mesmo que ele estivesse vivo nunca seria a mesma coisa
Então de repente o ar se encheu com um estranho e doce perfume
Luzes que vinham de toda a parte expulsaram as sombras da sala
Então Jesus apareceu pra mim com seus braços abertos
E eu cai de joelhos, me agarrei a ele e chorei
Então Ele me levantou e enquanto eu olhava em seus olhos
Havia uma luz brilhando nele, como que do céu
Culpa e minha confusão desapareceram suavemente
E todo medo que eu tinha simplesmente se transformou em paz
Doce paz

The gates and doors were barred and all the windows fastened down
I spent the night in sleeplessness and rose at every sound
Half in hopeless sorrow and half in fear the day

The gate began to rattle and a voice began to call
I hurried to the window and looked down into the street
Expecting swords and torches and the sound of soldiers feet
But there was no one there but mary so i went down to let her in
John stood there beside me as she told us where she'd been
She said they moved him in the night and none of us knows where
The stone's been rolled away and now his body isn't there
So we both ran toward the garden then john ran on ahead
We found the stone and empty tomb just the way that mary said
But the winding sheet they wrapped him in was just an empty shell
And how or where they'd taken him, it was more than i could tell.
Well something strange had happened there, just what i did not know
John believed a miracle but i just turned to go
Circumstance and speculation couldn't lift me very high
Cause i'd seen them crucify him and then i saw him die.
Back inside the house again the guilt and anguish came
Everything i'd promised him just added to my shame
When at last it came to choices i denied i knew his name
And even if he was alive it could never be the same
Then suddenly the air was filled with a strange and sweet perfume
Light that came from everywhere go shadows from the room
Then jesus took before me with his arms open and wide
And i fell on my knees and i just crumbled in and cried
Then he raise me to my feet and there's i looked into his eyes
Light was shining out from him, like some light from the sky
Guilt and my confusion dissapeard in sweet release
And every fear i've ever had just melted into peace
Sweet peace
He's alive, he's alive, he's alive and i'm forgiven
Heaven's gates are open wide
