Como os outros eram - eu não vi

Minhas paixões de uma primavera comum
Da mesma origem eu não tomei
Minha tristeza; eu não acordei
Meu coração no mesmo tom
E eu amei, eu amei sozinho
Então - na minha infância - no amanhecer
De uma vida turbulenta - fui trazido
De toda a profundeza do bem e da doença
O mistério que me mantem parado
Da torrente, ou da fonte,
Do penhasco vermelho da montanha
Do sol que me rolou
No seu tingido ouro de outono -
Do relampago no céu
Passou voando por mim -
Do trovão e da tempestade
E a nuvem que olhou a forma
(Quando o resto do céu estava azul)
De um demônio na minha vista.

From the torrent, or the fountain,
From the red cliff of the mountain
From the sun that 'round me roll'd
In it's autumn tint of gold -
From the lighting in the sky
As it pass'd me flying by -
From the thunder and the storm,
And the cloud that look the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view.
