Saiu para combater o bom combate no Vietnã do Sul,
Saiu para lutar pela liberdade, paz e tudo,

Viu-se envolvido em um mar de sangue e ossos,
Milhões sem rostos, sem esperança e sem casas.
E as armas que ficou mais alto, como fizeram pó de ossos
Que a carne há muito tinha deixado assim como as pessoas deixaram suas casas,

Eles estão lá apenas para tentar fazer as pessoas livres,
Mas a maneira que eles estão fazendo isso, não me parece assim para mim.
Apenas mais derramamento de sangue e miséria e lágrimas
Que este pobre país é conhecido nos últimos vinte anos,
E a guerra se arrasta.
Ontem à noite, pobre Dan teve um pesadelo que parece.
Uma delas mantinha ocorrendo e re-ocorrendo em seu sonho:
Cidades cheias de gente queimar e gritar e berrar alto
E a direita sobre a cabeça de uma grande nuvem de cogumelo laranja.
E não há mais guerra,
pois não há mais mundo,
E as lágrimas começam a descer.
Sim, eu minto, chorando no chão

Went out to fight the good fight in South Vietnam,
Went out to fight for peace, liberty and all,
Went out to fight for equality, hope, let's go,
And the war drags on.
Found himself involved in a sea of blood and bones,
Millions without faces, without hope and without homes.
And the guns they grew louder as they made dust out of bones
That the flesh had long since left just as the people left their homes,

They're just there to try and make the people free,
But the way that they're doing it, it don't seem like that to me.
Just more blood-letting and misery and tears
That this poor country's known for the last twenty years,

Last night poor Dan had a nightmare it seems.
One kept occurring and re-occurring in his dream:
Cities full of people burn and scream and shoutin' loud
And right over head a great orange mushroom cloud.
And there's no more war,
for there's no more world,
And the tears come streaming down.
